According to a process for treating metal-containing dusts arising from thermal metallurgical processes, especially dusts containing zinc, in which the dusts are taken to an agglomeration and especially a briquette-making plant (9), where the briquettes are returned to the metallurgical process or, after reaching a predetermined metal content, to a utilisation plant, after the dust has been separated into coarse and fine dusts (8, 11), the metal content of the fine dust (11) is measured. On reaching a predetermined metal content, the fine dust (11) is taken to an agglomeration and especially a pelletising plant (18) and further processed and, after agglomeration and especially briquetting (9), at least the coarse dust (8) is returned to the metallurgical process. In a device for implementing said process, comprising a metalluragical reaction vessel (1), one at least single-stage flue gas cleaning (5) plant, an agglomeration plant (9) and a feed aperture (10) for returning at least some of the briquettes to the metallurgical reaction vessel (1), these is a two-way flue gas cleaning device (5) for the separate extraction of coarse and fine dust (8, 11), and in a fine dust extraction line (11) there is a device (12) for measuring the metal content of the fine dust and an additional extraction aperture (16) for fine dust.
