A method for wrapping a palletized loadbounded by a vertical lateral face which is closed onitself and two, upper and lower, end faces, by meansof film made from plastic. An initial outermostportion of a band of film coming from a reel of filmis attached to the lateral face of the load. Arelative pivoting movement of the axis of the reel offilm and of the load is performed about a first axiswhich is substantially coincident with the verticalaxis of the load and which has a vertical generaldirection and, as a result of this movement, the bandof film is progressively laid over this lateral face.Film is laid over the upper end face to be covered;the band of film is cut transversely and the terminaloutermost portion of the band is firmly secured tothe laid film or to the load, wherein film comingfrom the reel of film is laid over the upper end faceto be covered and, for this purpose, when the band offilm is in the vicinity of the upper end face. Atleast one pass is carried out in which the relativepivoting movement about the first axis is stopped. Arelative pivoting movement of the order of onequarter or of three quarters of a turn of the axis ofthe reel of film and of the load is performed about asecond axis which has a horizontal general directionand the reel of film is thus brought from a sub-stantially vertical position which is parallel to andclose to the lateral face of the load to a generalposition close to and parallel to the upper end faceto be covered. The axis of the reel of film then2being substantially orthogonal to the second axis; inthis situation at least one relative sliding movementof the axis of the reel of film and of the load isperformed substantially along the second axis over atravel of the order of the longitudinal dimension ofthe upper end face of the load measured along thesecond axis until it is covered with the film. Arelative pivoting movement of the order of onequarter or three quarters of a turn of the axis ofthe reel of film and of the load is then performedabout the second axis until the reel of film isbrought into a position substantially parallel to andclose to the lateral face of the load.
