The invention concerns a snack half product comprising a starch-containing pellet which has a coating of fat or oil. The snack half product may be packaged in a heat resistant bag of plastics laminate, and, when heated in a microwave oven, the snack half product provides a snack which has expanded reliably, which has a low fat content, which may moreover be seasoned by the consumer according to taste. The coating additionally has the function of increasing the shelf life of the snack half product.
