The carbon filter (10) is used for adsorption of the fuel vapour in the fuel tank (11), or the carburettor float chamber and return of the fuel to the engine combustion chamber. It has a packing (26) of active carbon of given pore size contained within a sealed housing, coupled to the fuel tank, the suction line for the engine and a fresh air intake (36). The line (12) between the fuel tank and the filter contains an overpressure valve (38) which opens in response to a given overpressure, the line (22) connecting the filter to the suction line for the engine containing an underpressure valve (44), opening at a given underpressure.
