The bases for jewellery and articles of handicraft are made of hot melt adhesive; as an example a base set with pearls is produced by placing pearls in a negative mould of moist clay and casting hot melt adhesive in. Moist clay is an excellent material for the techniques as it adheres so well to jewels, etc. but does not adhere to the hot melt adhesive. When the adhesive has set solid its bond to the jewels, etc. is stronger than that to the clay, so that the jewels are readily released. Other methods however can also be used, e.g., starting with a positive mould to cast A negative in the adhesive, here the starting mould is wet plaster. By choice of colour of the adhesive different decorative effects can be obtained. The clay or plaster moulds can be water-cooled much faster than silicone. The process also has advantages over conventional methods using a centrifuge; another variant is to place an irridescent film over the base. Many other items, e.g., toilet boxes, etc. can also be produced besides jewellery bases, etc. ADVANTAGE - The principle makes it very simple to produce the jewellery, etc. which is nevertheless hard-wearing. It is cheap. The products can be made in almost any size and shape.
