Process and apparatus for neutralising cavities to be foam-filled having a high-pressure mixing head for reactive polyurethane components, which enter a mixing chamber through opposite nozzles, are mixed in countercurrent and flow through the outlet opening into a mould cavity. The axially displaceable controlling and cleaning plunger, arranged in the mixing chamber, moves from the rear end position into the front end position after the mixing operation, as it does so cleans the mixing chamber and causes the reaction components to undergo recirculation. In the neutralising position of the plunger, which is located between the front end position and rear end position, a neutralising bore is exposed, at which there is arranged a switchable valve, which is open during the neutralising operation. In this position, the recirculation of the components is maintained.
