PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely grip whether runout is eliminated or not objectively without depending on intuition of an operator. ;SOLUTION: An ultrasonic signal generated when a dresser tool is brought into contact with a rotating grinding wheel is detected by means of an AE sensor 1 so as to be amplified by means of a preamplifier 2, and then, its waveform is displayed in a monitor device 3. If runout of the grinding wheel or the dresser tool is large, a change of amplitude of the ultrasonic wave is also large, while runout is reduced to an appropriate range, a change of amplitude of the ultrasonic wave is also stabilized and reduced, so that it is determined that elimination of runout is finished when a change of amplitude of the ultrasonic wave observed by the monitor 3 is reduced to the predetermined dimension.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
