PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a surface quality improver for coated paper, excellent in balance of surface strength-improving effect of paper and low tackiness in wet state by mixing a compound selected from the group of a (poly)alkylene glycol and a (poly)glycerol with an anionic acrylamide resin composition. ;SOLUTION: An acrylic amide monomer in an amount of 100 pts.wt. is copolymerized with 0.5-50 pts.wt. anionic vinyl monomer comprising an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, an unsaturated tricarboxylic acid, an unsaturated tetracarboxylic acid, an unsaturated sulfonic acid, an unsaturated phosphonic acid and their salts and 5-100 pts.wt. ureas and 0.005-10 pts.wt. crosslinking agent such as methylenebisacrylamide to afford an anionic acrylamide resin composition. A coating liquid containing a solid content of the resultant resin composition in an amount of 100 pts.wt. and 0.5-20 pts.wt. at least one kind of compound selected from the group of a (poly) alkylene glycol and a (poly)glycerol and having ≤10000 weight-average molecular weight is applied to paper to provide the objective coated paper for newspaper, etc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
