PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the low-temp. deterioration resistance of a zirconia material and to enhance the strength and toughness of the material. ;SOLUTION: A sintered compact of zirconia-contg. stock such as Y₂O₃-contg. ZrO₂ powder is formed, embedded in powder of a nitrogen compd. such as ZrN and heat-treated at 1,200-1,700°C in an atmosphere of gaseous nitrogen or inert gas to form a surface layer contg. nitrogen in the form of a solid soln. and more excellent in low-temp. deterioration suppressing property than the zirconia-contg. stock on the surface of the stock.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
