MULTI-PROTOCOL NETWORK MONITORING AND DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To enable the monitor and diagnosis of a computer without applying any load to a local area network and depending on any protocol by executing first-order diagnosis for judging the propriety of plural computers by monitoring a frame propagated through the network and second-order diagnosis for judging the propriety corresponding to a diagnostic frame. CONSTITUTION: The frame propagated through a local area network 1 is monitored by a transmission/reception part 2 and its address and protocol are analyzed. The analyzed address and protocol are stored in a memory part 5 together with discrimination conditions prepared in advance. Concerning the temporarily stored address, the interval between frames is monitored by a timer monitor part 4. When no frame is generated even after the lapse of time set as the discrimination conditions, a first-order alarm is generated. Next, a diagnostic part 8 is activated and when there is any abnormality in the diagnosed result, a second-order alarm is generated.
