PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize the conditions of a reception side before transmitting a message and to perform communication with an opposite party by an appropriate method. SOLUTION: A CPU 21 transmits an opposite party confirmation voice message composed of voice and an opposite party confirmation signal (tone '0Bh') from a DTMF generator 27 to the opposite party. In the case that the reception side is a telephone set (person), since a prescribed operation is performed in response to the opposite party confirmation voice message, for instance the tone '01h' is transmitted. Also, when the reception side is this language information processor, the opposite party confirmation signal is automatically responded to and the tone 'BBh' is transmitted. A tone signal from the reception side is received by a DTMF receiver 28. The CPU 21 displays that a telephone is connected at a display 12 when the tone is '01h' and displays that the language information processor is connected at the display 12 when the tone is 'BBh'.
