PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently reduce components contained in exhaust gas, particularly unburnt hydrocarbon at an engine starting time so as to control exhaust emission. ;SOLUTION: A tank 13 containing hydrogen storage alloy 11 is connected to an intake pipe 3 connected to an engine main body 1 via a hydrogen supply pipe 15. A solenoid valve 17 is provided in the hydrogen supply pipe 15, and the solenoid valve 17 is opened for a fixed time by the command of a controller 19 receiving the on signal input of an ignition switch 21. By the opening of the solenoid valve 17, hydrogen in the hydrogen storage alloy 11 flows into a combustion chamber together with intake gas so that combustion is effectively conducted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
