PURPOSE: To provide a rotary cutting tool, to which gum is hard to adhere, in the rotary cutting of wood or wood-based composite material. ;CONSTITUTION: In a rotary cutting tool having cutting blades, on each of which an outer peripheral cutting edge 6 and side cutting edges 7 are formed, the flank 4 of the side cutting blade, the relief angle θ₁ to the direction of rotation of which is especially 10° or less, is finished so as to have the surface roughness of Rmax 1-10μm and the topmost surface of the flank is coated with chromium or either one selected from the group consisting of chromium nitride, chromium carbide or chromium carbonitride so as to eliminate the adhesion of harmful gum to the tool. By using the above-mentioned tool, the tool has longer life or 10 times or more the life of the conventional tool. Thus, since high speed steel can be used as a cutting edge material instead of a hard metal, the cost of the tool becomes low.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
