PURPOSE:To calculate a syndrome with simple constitution by using a syndrome obtained through the supply of 1-bit and a bit before one code length in calculat ing a syndrome through a generation polynomial g(x) from a cyclic code compris ing a code length n-bit and shift quantity P-bit. CONSTITUTION:A data string of optional n-bit and shift quantity P-bit is fed to a shift register 3 and fed to a syndrome register 100 to calculate a syndrome S0(x)' using a polynomial g(x), the next 1-bit of the data string is supplied and the syndrome S1(x) is decided by the register 100. A value being the multipli cation of the syndrome S1(x)' with a multiple of xn+pmod g(x) to one head bit of the bit string of the register 3 is added by mod2 adders EX0-EX10 and the syndrome S1(x) shifted by one bit is calculated by simple constitution.
