A method wherein a plurality of partial representations are made of the external surface features of an object in a direction perpendicular to the surface to be reproduced, and in a series along an external characteristic line of the object, whereafter another plurality of partial representations of the external surface features of the object are made in a series along another line close to the first, and the above steps are repeated until representations of the whole of the external surface of the object have been made. All the partial representations are then reproduced, in juxtaposed series, on a flat physical medium such as paper, film or the like, or by light projection onto a template.
