In the combined electrochemical prepn. of Na2S2O8 and NaOH from Na2SO4, a satd. soln. of Na2SO4, neutral or contg. up to 30 g/l of H2SO4, and opt. also Na2S2O8 up to the limit of solubility, is fed at the electrolysis temp. of 30-70 (pref. 40-55) deg C, in a single or multi-stage electrolysis, to the anode chamber of the electrolysis cell divided into two parts by a cation-exchange membrane, and a Na ion concn. of 4.5-6.0 mol./l is maintained by further dissolution of Na2SO4 and/or by evapn. of water. A 10-40% NaOH soln. is circulated from the cathode chamber, opt. with addn. of water.
