The assembly has a second hinge tab (3) which is releasably fitted to the door pillar by a screwbolt (13) which not only joins the tab (3) to the adapter (12) but also locates this (12) and the tab (3) to the pillar. The projecting part (14) of the adapter to grasp the hinge pin (1) from above or below has an extension (15) which engages the first hinge tab (2) on its cross-wall marked out for the door check so that the adapter part (14) also takes up some of the door operating forces. The extension (15) lies in the bisector of the permitted maximum door opening angle and is spaced both from the pin (1) (door axis (1)) as also from the bolt (13) engaging the cross-wall of tab (3) as fitted out with the latching device for the door brake or check. The adapter forms a single or composite vee-plan element whose one part bears via face (11) against the door pillar and whose second part is provided by the projection (14) and extension (15) specified.
