Producing thick/thin or colour effects in a filament yarn (1) during drawing entails repeated short alterations of the draft strength (I; I1) applied to the yarn, repeated increase of resistance against the draft in short longitudinal yarn sections or both these procedures. Also claimed is appts. for the method comprising at least one entry and one exit feed mechanism between which limits is defined the draft field applied to the yarn. The input mechanism (3) has a device (15) for repeated short interruptions to its yarn restraining force or there is a device situated near the draft field for the transient interruption of the yarn's reduced resistance against drafting.
