The drill bit (1) has an exchangeable cutting head (13) on the end of the shaft (11). The head has a extension (19) which is shaped to suit the e.g. four or six sided or possibly tapering socket (21) on the end of the shaft. Alternatively the head may have a socket to suit the end of the shaft. The shaft and head fit tightly and lock in a way such that they rotate together. The same shaft can be used for a different drilling heads.
