The network consists a network of components in the form of subscriber connector units (R-CDU,L-CDU) for connecting analogue and digital subscriber lines for analogue individual connections and ISDN base connections. They also connect digital connection lines for ISDN extensions and fixed connections. The network has at least one unit (L-STU,R-STU) for synchronous transport to the subscriber sides of the subscriber connection units. The synchronous transport unit forms the component of the transport network (SDH-TRP) via which the exchange (LE), where the connection is made, is connected to further exchanges. The network also has a server (SCU) which is selectively connected to a transport unit to process and switch through 64 kbit per second channels. The synchronous transport unit(s) and the interfaces connect the components to each other. These operate on the basis of the synchronous digital transmission hierarchies.
