Device for selecting a crystallisation grain of predetermined transverse orientation and vertical 001 direction, used in the casting of single crystal parts, comprises a starter base (10) and a two-dimensional chicane-type selector (30) in the form of a succession of straight bars with a common median symmetry plane, where the selector (30) includes at least one bar (35) inclined at 95-135 deg to each bar (34,36) adjoining its ends.
