Tank and fuel gauge for vehicle - using transductor to detect fuel level, and memory to relate fuel levels to fuel volume

The fuel gauge uses a transductor (10) which consists of an electrically resistive track (12) with a cursor (14) which is either moved along it by a float (16) attached to a pivoted arm (19) (18) or is guided to slide vertically. Before installation in a tank the transductor is submitted to a control bench (30) which is able to move the float (16) over it's course and detect the electrical signal for each fuel level. These data are combined with stored data relating fuel levels to fuel volume for a particular tank and the results which link electrical signal to fuel volume are stored in a memory (40).
