PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly obtain mass spectra containing molecular weight information and structure information and reduce the consumption of a valuable sample. ;SOLUTION: Charged fine liquid drops 40 discharged from the tip of a metal capillary 2 advance through the atmosphere 4 along an electric field, collide against atmospheric molecules to be divided into very fine particles, and finally ions are exhausted into the atmosphere. The produced ions are accelerated with an intermediate pressure part 9 of an ion introducing part, and introduced into a mass spectrometry part 24 through an ion focusing/transfer line part 20 of the ion introducing part. The ions are trapped and stored in three- dimensional quadrupole field of the mass spectrometry part 24. The stored ions fly out by the sweep of the quadrupole field, are detected with a detector 15, and produce mass spectra. During the storage of ions, accelerating voltage is switched in two steps. Therefore, collision/dissociation of ions to neutral molecules is conducted in the different collision/dissociation conditions, and the mass spectra have both molecular weight information and structure information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
