PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To be easily conformable to various application conditions and to enable high quality application by shielding a function unit which is longer than is wide and directly contacts an application medium which is applied to a traveling material web of paper or a paper board, etc., and a support element which is longer than is wide and support the unit thermally from each other. SOLUTION: An apparatus for applying a liquid application medium 2, to a traveling material web is supported by a support beam T which is longer than is wide and a hollow body and has a function unit F in a shape of a jet nozzle applicator opposite to a counter roll 4. The unit F includes a base part 6 having a base 8 arranged in the beam T and a distribution tube 10 for supplying the medium 2 and is discharging the medium 2 from a supply gap 14 between the side wall 16 of the base part 6 and a front plate 18 through a jet nozzle 26 between lips 20, 22. The unit F is shut off from the beam T by an insulating layer 30 formed between the base 8 and a flat upper surface 28 and guarantees high quality coating.
