PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the cDNA of the subject new gene coding for a polypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence and produced by the mantle tissue of Japanese pearl oyster and useful e.g. as a raw material for cosmetics and for the development of the piece selection method in pearl culture. ;SOLUTION: This new cDNA has a base sequence expressed by the formula, codes for a new polypeptide produced by the mantle tissue of Japanese pearl oyster (Pinctada fucata) and is useful for the development of a new raw material for cosmetics, a new piece-selection method in pearl culture, etc. The cDNA can be produced by separating whole RNA from the epithelial cell of the mantle of Japanese pearl oyster, separating mRNA therefrom using an oligo (dT) latex particle, preparing a cDNA library by conventional method using the mRNA, screening the library by plaque hybridization using a synthesized labeled probe and recovering the DNA from the obtained positive clone.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
