PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful for detecting various compounds, etc., capable of readily inducing a fluorescent derivative by modifying a nitrogen atom of aromatic nucleus. ;SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R1, R2 and R3 are each a lower alkyl; X is methylene; Y is a halogen) such as 3-chloroacetyl-6,7- dimethoxy-1-methyl-2(1H)-quinoxaline such as 3-chloroaacetyl-6,7-dimethoxy-1- methy-2(1H)-quinoxaline. A quinoxaline derivative of formula II is reacted with a halogenating agent such as thionyl chloride usually at a room temperature to a heating condition (e.g. about (e.g. about 70-80°C) for tens hours to several hours and converted into an acid halide of formula III. Then, the compound of formula III is reacted with an alkylating agent such as a diazoalkane of the formula XN2 in a solvent such an ether under cooling with ice to room temperature for tens minutes to several hours to give a compound of formula IV (X' is methine), which is reacted with a halogenating agent such as HCl in a solvent such as chloroform under cooling with ice to a room temperature for tens minutes to several hours to give a compound of formula I.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
