The road tanker (1,4) is connected by hose (2) to up-load the contents of the static tank (3). The transfer mechanism (5) includes a non-self-priming rotary pump, electrically driven either from the mains or by hydraulic power from the vehicle engine. The transfer mechanism (5) also includes a supplementary tank placed above pump level. High pressure air through one or more venturi tubes mounted in parallel, create suction to fill the supplementary tank with milk. Flow from the supplementary tank automatically primes the pump and switches it on.
