An adhesive tape or an adhesive label each of whichcomprises a substrate including a biodegradable polymerlayer and an adhesive layer provided on at least onesurface of the substrate. The adhesive tape has a releaseagent layer formed,on an opposite surface to the surfacewhere the adhesive layer is provided, or has a release tapewhich is in contact with the adhesive layer, and theadhesive tape is wound up around a core for storage. Theadhesive label has a release sheet which is in contact withthe adhesive layer. In such biodegradable adhesive tapeand biodegradable adhesive labels,a biodegradable polymeris used as a material of the substrate, and thereforedisruption of the natural environment or of theecosystem in the soil is minimised even when the tapeandlabel are discarded in the soil after use.
