System and method for controlling emissions created by spraying a heated liquid paving composition from a moving vehicle

A system (10) and a method for controlling emissions caused by spraying liquids from a moving vehicle (14) onto a pavement surface use a vacuum hood (16) mountable to the vehicle and a fan (28) for creating a partial vacuum within the hood to draw air containing emissions into the hood for collection. A filter (20) or other suitable apparatus is used to extract the emissions before the air is discharged to the atmosphere. The vacuum hood is located above the sprayed surface and is preferably located behind the nozzle (12). It has a primary opening (22) at its forward end for collection of air adjacent the nozzle and a smaller, auxiliary opening (24) behind the primary opening.
