The engine has a crank shaft consisting of several parts, which are joint together, positively, and displaceably. This forms a crank shaft, the components of which are at right angles to each other when in long-stroke position, to give a maximum crank stroke and high torque. When the two end sections of the crankshaft are moved apart, the crank arms occupy a relatively angled expanded position, so that the crank bolt approaches the crank shaft axis. This causes piston stroke and torque to be reduced, and the engine to occupy the short-stroke position.
