A valve (1) for cold water, hot water or steam has a cast metal housing (2) with a valve seat ring (23) fixed in an outer sector (28) of the housing. The valve spindle and closure (20) moves axially to and from the ring. The unmachined blank valve seat ring is pre-positioned in the mould during the housing (2) casting operation. The valve housing may be built as a one piece unit.
