The invention concerns the use of 1-adamantane amines (amantadines) or structurally similar compounds for combating borna disease virus infections and for treating affective diseases and disorders associated with borna disease virus infections in humans and animals. The use of these substances results in rapid and lasting elimination of the symptoms and signs and in the suppression of the virus activity.
