A flash tube has a glass sleeve (2) and a discharge chamber (9) with an anode (7) and a cathode (8). Behind one of these electrodes is a getter material (11). There is an increase of flow resistance between the discharge chamber and the space where the getter material is. The glass sleeve at the height of the electrode which is between the discharge chamber and the getter chamber is equipped with a bead pointing inwards. This same electrode has a cylindrical shape and is surrounded by a glass ring whose outer side is welded with the inside of the glass sleeve. The end side of the electrode is displaced relative to the bead or the glass ring in the direction of the getter chamber.
