Pedestrian Crosswalk Safety: Evaluating In-Pavement, Flashing Warning Lights

The Lighting Research Center (LRC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute examined the use of in-pavement flashing warning lights at crosswalks. These warning lights help make crosswalks more conspicuous by day and night, but they are more expensive than conventional striping and marking. The LRS's study evaluated the effects of striping alone and striping with in-pavement flashing lights on the behavior of drivers.
