The method involves correlating track-specific measurement parameters with corresp. reference parameters. Pseudo distance values (A1) to at least one terrestrial transmitter (LWS) are determined during at least one measurement journey of at least one vehicle over a track or route (S) by evaluating the transition times of the signals to the transmitter and relating them to vehicle position. During subsequent journeys, measured pseudo distance values are correlated and the resulting positions (FO) used to call up the absolute position results or related relative position values stored for these positions.
