The method involves measuring the sound field outside the vehicle during travel with at least one microphone. The sound field outside the vehicle whilst it is still is measured by the same microphone with a sound excitation using at least one loudspeaker outside the vehicle, the diaphragm acceleration of which is measured simultaneously. The sound field in the passenger compartment with the vehicle still is measured using at least one microphone in the cabin with a sound excitation by an outside loudspeaker, the diaphragm acceleration of which is measured simultaneously. A frequency dependent transmission function is produced between each microphone outside the vehicle and each loudspeaker outside the vehicle. A frequency dependent transmission function is also produced between each microphone inside the cabin and each loudspeaker outside the vehicle is formed. The sound field which exists as an air noise part in the cabin is computed from the two transmission functions and from the sound field measured outside the vehicle in a travel operation.
