Piston-type damper for vehicle suspension

The volume compensation system is for a damper (1) of piston-cylinder type, used in the suspension of a motor vehicle. The cylinder (2) is filled with damping fluid and has a piston sliding in its bore, with a valve system controlling the flow of fluid between the first working chamber (5) under the piston and the second working chamber formed by the space between the cylinder bore and the piston rod (3). The piston rod passes through a fluid-tight gland (4) in the top of the cylinder. The cylinder is surrounded by an outer housing (6), containing damping fluid in the annular space between the inner diameter of the housing and the outer diameter of the cylinder there is a compressible volume (8) near the top of the annular chamber, consisting of a bladder containing a support frame.
