PURPOSE: To improve the light scatterability of the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal display element and to improve the contrast when this element is constituted as the reflection type liquid crystal display device. ;CONSTITUTION: This liquid crystal display element is constituted by superposing polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layers 8, 9 which are formed by dispersing liquid crystal drops 12, 13 having positive dielectric anisotropy into polymers 10, 11 and electrically control the scattering and transmission of the light on each other and clamping a transparent supporting body 2 for light scattering between the polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layers 8 and 9. The reflection type liquid crystal display device formed by using this polymer dispersion type liquid crystal display element is constituted by superposing and disposing the first polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer 8 which is formed by dispersing the liquid crystal drops 12 into the polymer 10 and electrically controls the scattering and transmission of the light and the second polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer 9 which is formed by dispersing the liquid crystal drops 13 into the polymer 11 and electrically controls coloration and the transmission of the light on each other and providing a white reflection plate 15 on the rear surface of the first or second polymer dispersion type liquid crystal layer 8 or 9.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
