The signal supplied by a sensor is compared with a ramp, and a counter started by the ramp generation is stopped when equality is observed. Two switches (K1,K2) are closed momentarily to start the ramp, and when they are reopened the control logic (CLC) starts the counter (CO). Rising and falling signals (V1,V2) are compared with strain-gauge wheatstone bridge outputs (S1-S3). Compsn. rules are established for membership functions of sensor output signals within their dynamic range. A resultant signal is computed and the number and form of its membership functions are modified by successive approximation. The compsn. rules are also adjusted to bring the mean error below a threshold.
