Process for aq. phase oxidn. of effluents comprising subjecting the effluents to oxidn. in the presence of at least one catalyst and at least one oxidising agent at a temp. of 20-350 (200-350) deg C under a total pressure of 1-160 (20-160) bars to mineralise part of the organic material and the total and ammoniacal nitrogen contained in the effluent, the oxidn. being carried out in a reactor in which a gas phase is provided above the liq. phase comprising the effluents and the catalyst being a heterogeneous catalyst located within the reactor above the interface between the gaseous phase and the liq. phase.
