Attics of a dwelling, which defined by a frame whose structure enables a gain in useful volume, and method of transformation of attics not amenageables in order to make them quarters
The method involves creating a habitable space inside a loft made from a series of lightweight triangular roof trusses (4). I-section steel joists (20) are mounted on the top of vertical posts to support the rafters. Each joist is held against the rafter by an anti-tilt strip (16) which is fastened to the rafter and has notches (18) in it to engage with the edges of the joist's upper and lower flanges. The gap between the upper surface of the joist and the sloping underside of the rafter is filled by a triangular fillet (23) of the same thickness as the rafter. The lower ends of the vertical posts are supported by load-bearing cross-members which have their ends resting on load-bearing walls (7). The floor (9) of the loft conversion is laid on top of timber joists (10) resting on load-bearing walls (7) and a central lintel (11) supported by a post (12).
