The compressor has a stator made up of a casing formed by an assembly of parts 7 in a circular arrangement, and assembled using longitudinal flanges 2, and sectors 5 (some of which carry stator blades 6) demarcating the flow path of gases and fixed to the casing parts by hooks 8, 9 thereby demarcating substantially air tight chambers 13. A layer of air is held in these chambers and reduces the transmission of heat to the casing. This reduces irregular expansion of the casing which would otherwise have the effect of increasing clearances between the ends of the rotor blades and the stator 6 and 14 and of reducing the efficiency of the machine. As an alternative, the chamber may be filled with solid insulating material such as quartz wool or metal felt.
