PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a thin photocatalyst film which acts stably even when irradiated with light in the visible light region and ensures high selectivity of production of nitrogen in photolysis reaction of nitrogen monoxide and to provide a photocatalytic reaction method by irradiating the thin photocatalyst film with light in the wavelength region from UV to visible light. ;SOLUTION: Ions of a metal selected from the group comprising V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu are implanted into a thin titanium dioxide film formed on a substrate and then the film is annealed to obtain the objective thin photocatalyst film. A photocatalytic reaction method is carried out by irradiating the thin photocatalyst film with light in the wavelength region from UV to visible light in the presence of a reactant.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
