PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject apparatus capable of simplifying the structure and stably arranging an opened fiber bale during the opening operations by mutually synchronizing the movement, etc. in the vertical direction of a beam with a controller. ;SOLUTION: This opening apparatus comprises a carriage 17 running along the lateral face of a fiber bale 1, a tower placed on the carriage 17 in order to run integrally with the carriage 17 and a beam extending over the fiber bale 1 in the direction crossing the running direction and placed on the tower. An opening drum 5, a lattice 4 and bale supporting members 6a and 6b are housed in the beam, which can be moved in the vertical direction relatively to the tower. The carriage 17 and the tower can be moved in the direction crossing the running direction and in the horizontal direction and the movement of the beam in the vertical direction and the movement of the tower in the horizontal direction are mutually synchronized with a controller 14.
