PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a processing time and to have recognition precision improved by simplifying character recognition processing from an input pen. ;SOLUTION: When a user holds an input pen 1 in a hand and draws a character, sign and the like, X and Y acceleration sensors 3 and 4 detect the acceleration and outputs a signal. Also, a pressure sensor detects the pressure of a pen and outputs the signal to pattern recognition device 2. A recognition processing pattern 17 compares a pattern signal stored in a pattern signal storage part 16 with signal from each of the sensors and specifies the character or the sign.
