PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately detect danger bulging at early time so as to be able to prevent the accident, etc., caused by the bulging from occurring by accurately detecting the fine bulging between rolls in a continuous casting equipment. ;SOLUTION: A displacement on the upper surface of a cast slab between the rolls, a displacement on the upper surface of the roll near the upper surface of this cast slab and a displacement in a frame of this roll, are measured with three laser sensors 1a, 1b, 1c arranged in a pinch roll zone, etc., of the continuous casting equipment. Then, a true bulging quantity δ' between the rolls is obtd. by subtracting the displacement measured value on the upper surface of the roll and the displacement measured value of the frame from the displacement measured value on the upper surface of the cast slab. When this bulging quantity between the rolls exceeds any one of criterion for judging calculated from an equation showing the relation between the pre-obtd. bulging quantity between the rolls and a cast slab width, casting speed or carbon content in the cast slab, it is judged as the danger bulging, and then, the bulging quantity is restrained by changing the casting condition.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
