PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject fungistatic method that can inhibit fungi from growing on the surfaces of cut flowers to enable the cut flowers to be stored and kept fresh for a long period of time by dehumidifying the air and lowering the moisture level on the surfaces of the cut flowers (in other words drying the air). ;SOLUTION: The cut flowers after harvesting are placed in an atmosphere that is controlled to a low relative humidity longer than a prescribed time thereby lowering the moisture on the surface tissues of the cut flowers down to an unsuitable level for fungi to grow or drying the spores of fungi sticking to the surface tissues and the surfaces whereby the surfaces of the cut flower are kept fungistatic. The target level to be lowered is at the one that is unsuitable for fungi to grow and that does not damage the commodity value of the cut flowers after their storage and flowering. The level of lowered relative humidity is lower than 60% and the humidity is lowered by dehumidifying the air in the treatment chamber or by introducing the air that is dried outside into the treatment chamber.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
