PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the measurement precision of pulse wave propagation speed information as much as possible in an automatic blood pressure measuring instrument with a pulse wave propagation speed information measuring function, by which the blood pressure value of aliving body is decided based on a heart beat synchronizing signal generated from the living body in process where the oppressive pressure of a cuff wound around a part of the living body is changed. SOLUTION: When the electrocardi-guide waveform of the living body is detected by an electrocardi-guide device 70 through an electrode which is brought into contact with the living body and the cuff pulse wave of the living body is detected by a pressure sensor 40, time difference TDRP from the R-wave of the electrocardi-guide waveform till the lower peak point of cuff pulse wave is calculated by a time difference calculating means 82 and a propagation speed calculating means 84 calculates cuff pulse wave propagation speed VM1 based on the time difference TDRP. Then, the average value of the three beat portion of cuff pulse wave propagation speed VM1 which is successively calculated after judgement that the change value of the propagation speed VM1 is equal to below a prescribed value by a change value judging means 86, is decided as the propagation speed VM2 of pulse wave which is propagated in the artery of the living body in a propagation speed deciding means 87.
