PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the device and method for optical fiber end surface machining which can machine end surfaces of respective optical fibers in an aligned state and the assembling method for an optical connector which adopts them. ;SOLUTION: A coated optical fiber 3 has its jacket removed at its end part and is gripped by a connector holder 33. The core holder 33 is fitted to a connector holder receptacle 31. The connector holder receptacle 31 itself is moved to a cutting machining part 1 and a cutting arm 11 is lowered to fix and cut the optical fiber 4. At this time, the optical fiber 4 is still gripped by the connector holder 33, so the end surfaces of the respective optical fibers 4 never shift in position. Further, the optical fibers 4 are positioned about a discharge electrode bar 21 only by being fixed with a V-groove presser 23. The end surfaces of the optical fibers 4 are fused by discharge heating to obtain a desired end surface shape.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
