PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To show relative words that can effectively reduce retrieval omissions and narrow down retrieval results. ;SOLUTION: A retrieval condition accepting means 2 accepts a retrieval condition 'S'. A document retrieving means 3 acquires a document set 'X' meeting the retrieval condition that the retrieval condition accepting means 2 has accepted from a document storage means 1. A relative word calculating means 4 obtains a relative word set 'Wn' by regarding words having high relativity to the retrieval condition as relative words. An appearance frequency calculating means 5 calculates the appearance frequency 'R(Wn)' of each relative word in the relative word set in the document set. A relative word selecting means 6 selects a relative word by using a calculation expression including the number 'N' of documents in the document set and the appearance frequency of each relative word as variables.
